Every step in the artisan coffee chain – growing, harvesting, processing, roasting, and brewing – requires care, attention, and most of all, a passion about the final result. The modern day barista acts as a kind of coffee steward. It’s their responsibility to facilitate this last, crucial step in coffee’s journey from seed to cup. The best baristas prepare great beverages with consistency, precision and accuracy, and present the consumer with both a delicious beverage and a quality experience.
With this point of view in mind, we’ve launched a program to help baristas develop the skills and knowledge needed to confidently prepare coffee to the industry’s best standards. The New Harvest Coffee Lead Barista Certification Program focuses on professional development and skill building for baristas who wish to excel in a specialty coffee shop environment. Lead Baristas will learn the fundamentals of espresso and milk preparation, as well as the ins and outs of extraction, tasting, drink building, work flow, and a variety of other skills.
This program is perfect for professional baristas, coffee managers, shift leaders, and anyone looking to approach coffee with the great care, attention, and passion it deserves.
- completion of the following courses: Barista Fundamentals, Intermediate Espresso, Advanced Espresso, Latte Art + Milk Science, Advanced Latte Art, Understanding Your Machines
- passing of a cumulative exam after completion of required courses
Upon successful completion of the requirements, all certified Lead Baristas will receive a commemorative Lead Barista t-shirt and hat (sweet!) as well as written documentation of their completion of the program.
Lead Baristas will be subject to yearly review by a New Harvest trainer.
