ASOPROKAN stands for “Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta Agroecological Indigenous Kankuamo Producers Association.” This coop was formed by the Kankuamo indigenous tribe and is in the town of Atenquez in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range. ASOPROKAN was created in 2008 and consists of 150 indigenous growing families. It was founded to initiate programs for the socio-cultural and socio-economic recovery of the Kankuamo people. The coop resides on about 520 hectares with each family cultivating about 3 hectares apiece.
Varietals are Caturra and Typica. The coffee is fully washed and is sun-dried on patios.
